System File Checker

 

1. Copy the i386 folder from a Windows XP cd that is the same version you are running.

2. Copy the following into notepad and save as i386Path.reg

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]"SourcePath"="c:\\"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]"SourcePath"="c:\\"

3. At the run line type

sfc  /scannow
